All of these users are spread across 200 countries. From here, Sony’s intention was even more unanimous to strengthen their market in the anime streaming field. Especially now that the world is in the midst of a pandemic that requires many people to stay at home.

Sony itself has been negotiating with AT & T since last August. AT & T proposed Crunchyroll price above USD 1 billion. But unfortunately, at that time Sony refused the price given. Then they made an offer of USD 957 million last October.

After that, there was no news at all about this ongoing acquisition. However, on Saturday, Sony announced that they had successfully acquired Crunchyroll for USD 1.17 billion or equivalent to IDR 17 trillion.

The reason AT&T dared to release Chrunchyroll itself was because it wanted to maximize services on HBO Max. A little information for all of you, Sony has also previously succeeded in acquiring Funimation right in 2017. Of course, it will be interesting to see Crunchyroll’s future under the auspices of Sony.
